Momo Cooking with a Home Chef


Inexpensive, delicious taste, availability and deep historic roots – all these ingredients have been pivotal to the momo’s huge following in Nepal and beyond. Fried or steamed, spicy or not, veg or non-veg there are all kinds of takers for this ubiquitous street snack, which is also made in most Nepali homes.

You have seen them, you have eaten them, but have you tried making them? Locals not only love the dish but the social process behind it. Making momos together before big festivals and celebrations are one of the most beloved things to do in Nepal, and now you can try your hand at it too!

Learn to cook the infamous Nepali Momo (stuffed dumpling) combining all the different steps required in the preparation and cooking technique all under the roof in a local Kathmandu home.

At the very outset, you will savour the warm welcome given you by Purna and her family when you arrive for the cook-up for the iconic momo. It is an auspicious beginning to new learnings to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of a Nepali home, which showcases a very important aspect of its cultural roots,

What you will experience

This stuffed dumpling preparation is one of the most popular dishes in Nepal. The momo is also a great example of Tibetan influences in Nepali cuisine. Check out the different processes we'll be learning to do in the workshop! From kneading dough, preparing ingredients, folding the momos to finally cooking them …you get to know it all! Your entire cooking class will be held in our host Purna’s kitchen, where you will teach you all the finer points of getting the momo right at every stage! Later, once the meal is prepared, you will share it with Purna and her family to enjoy it over a lively conversation about the ubiquitous momo as a street tradition and foodie delightEverything is included in the price of the cook-out, so just get ready to have some fun, some good food and make some good friends!
