Whisking you away from the urban landscape of Kathmandu this tour takes you to the heart of Nepal’s rural world where a sojourn with a farmer and his family offers you a window into one of the most traditional forms of life in the country. Many communities in rural Nepal depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Not only do you get to explore the daily routine of a farmer, the crops and methods of farming, his eating habits, the living quarters, the entertainment, the bonding factor and culture of the community, you will also learn about the how the farm-to-market connectivity works. Farming in Nepal follows traditional customs that have been handed down from generation to generation and is largely labour intensive. Legally, you will discover, it is the wholesaler, who plays the role of a middleman between the farmer and the consumer for the produce; sadly he’s the one also who gets a big chunk of the profits. Because the wholesalers' role is integral to this ecosystem, very few farmers vend their products directly on carts or footpath, as it is not allowed. The farm holdings generally also tend to be quite small and mostly support the family’s own needs with just enough left over for sale.
Experience the farmer live style in Nepal with the local farmers and the challenges (such as crop failure, environmental uncertainties) and triumphs they face in their working conditions. Learn all about growing vegetables and fruits and the seasonal rotation of growing crops, the methods employed to cultivate the land and other matters like irrigation, fertilisers, transportation and connecting with the urban markets. Learn how to milk a cow; discover the importance of the animal for the family, as cows are one of the key sources for income-generation and self-sustainability for the family with the products like milk, cheese, ghee, curd etc.
