The Nandi Trail is set in the foothills of Nandi Hills about an hour's drive from Bangalore. On this trail, one learns about the Battle of Nandidoorg where the British defeated Tipu Sultan which turned the fortunes of this region. The tour also allows for a visit to some of the British graves that still remain.
Our journey begins in the area of the Nandi foothills where we reacquaint ourselves with Battle of Nandidoorg where the British defeated Tipu Sultan which turned the fate of this region with the Anglo-Mysorean War. Along the way, we will stop at the British garrison graveyard to see the last remaining graves of the British soldiers who perished in this battle. We then go on to meet the local community of potters where you can try your hands at making some clay art.
Our next stop is the stunning 9th-century Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple built in the Chola-style and spend some quiet time at one of the most beautiful temple stepwells. Our journey leads us to the Devanahalli Fort which once belonged to Hyder Ali and visit Tipu Sultan’s birthplace. Devanhalli is also known for its amazing pomelos, a citrus fruit full of goodness and flavour and rich in Vitamin C. We will learn more about this wonderful fruit at the Devanahalli Pomelos Conservation Centre. Our tour will end at a heritage farmhouse over some fresh tender coconut.
