Overview

This tour introduces us to one of Mysore’s most dynamic rulers. Tipu Sultan, a  daring warrior and far-sighted king who took on the British despite all the odds. A mere 20 mins drive from Mysore brings you to a beautiful river island enclosed by the river Cauvery. This is Srirangapatna, the erstwhile capital of Tipu. Get insights on the famous Anglo-Mysore Wars that were fought in this region, while we weave in its interesting connections to the American War of Independence, the French Revolution, and the Battle of Waterloo.

What you will experience

Our tour begins at the island city of Srirangapatna, Tipu Sultan’s old capital Set amidst a picturesque rural landscape it has a dreamy quality about it. We will get deep insights into the historical and cultural significance of this historic city. It’s hard to believe Tipu had to make the kind of tough decisions he had to make war on the British, from this tranquil spot. We will visit Tipu’s Summer Palace and try and get a measure on some of the really interesting connections Tipu had with the events happening across the globe. 

We will visit the fort area where some of the most lethal battles were fought with the British. We will also see some historical landmarks like the famous Bailey’s dungeon and the Obelisk. Get to see the beautiful third to fifth-century temples with their beautiful stone sculpted architecture. On the way near the banks of the river Cauvery, we will stop by to witness the death rituals being performed by the Hindu priests.
