Tour of Boudnath Stupa with Monk

A tour of Nepal’s UNESCO-acclaimed Boudhnath Stupa offers an excellent opportunity to open up many conversations of interest with the monk- cum - guide about spirituality, the Buddha, the monastery rituals, the daily routines, education, even football. He will not only accompany you around the Stupa, one of the world’s largest Buddhist stupas, but also the nearby monasteries.  The visit is made special with the lighting of the butter lamps and a blessing from the monk.

Why you will love it

  • Explore the UNESCO-acclaimed Boudhanath Stupa and nearby monasteries.
  • Learn about the life of the Buddhist monk.
  • Getting the blessings of a monk at a monastery.
  • Opportunity to join the monks during daily chanting sessions and lighting the butter lamps for your family well-being.

What you will experience

It’s not always you will be blessed enough to get up-close and very personal access to a religion that has held sway over Nepal for over two millennia; new perspectives await you of one of the world’s most important living religions—Buddhism, during your visit to the ancient Boudhnath Stupa on the outskirts of  Kathmandu as you explore its precincts, the monasteries around it and the daily routines of the monks who live here pursuing their spiritual goals. The great square of the Stupa is perpetually active with monks participating in their daily rituals.

A monk will accompany you around the Stupa and surrounding monasteries telling you about the importance of the Stupa itself and the life of the many monks who live in attendance of Boudhnath, and those who pursue their spiritual learning and goals here. You might chance upon monks in prayers, in religious discourse, turning prayer wheels and sometimes children, young novitiates dressed in traditional robes, settling down for a meal or playing football, as many kids of their age do.

You will even get an opportunity to participate in another interesting routine at the Stupa, the daily chanting sessions and lighting the butter lamps for your family well-being. The tour ends with a senior monk from the monastery giving you his blessings, after which you will head for a local restaurant for lunch.
