In Bhutan too visiting hot springs (tshachu in Bhutanese) has been very much part of the healthcare practices for the populace. Amongst the most popular sites as been the Gasa hot springs in Punakha district, which has five general bathhouses where one can take a dip in the mineral waters (drubchu) which can vary in temperature and different medicinal properties (smenchu).

Considered to be the blessings sent by Buddha, these springs are held in veneration by the locals. In Bhutan, hot spring therapy is a serious healing practice for various body ailments. The drive to Gasa is a treat in itself as you pass through great swathes and pine and oak forests, picturesquely set villages and pretty mountain streams.
Close to the turbulent waters of the Mo Chu River, the hot springs at Gasa along its embankment are also a big draw for tourists. One of the most popular hot springs in the country its little wonder that arrangements have been made for visitors to enjoy the experience to the fullest; road connectivity has helped pick up the pace for more tourist arrivals. There are several guesthouses around the springs which may be booked in advance. There are five bathhouses at the Gasa Tshachu for the public and a reserved one for the Royals. There’s one that even works on the "pay and use” mode for which visitors can also make bookings. As the mineral content of the water is rich in medicinal properties of varied nature, so one also has a choice of which one to use.
