A great option for the active traveller, take this short hike to explore the wilderness around Udaipur.
Set atop a hill, 5km west of Udaipur city, Sajjan Garh is also called the Monsoon Palace, for the fabulous views, it would provide of the monsoon clouds over Udaipur city. The hill, a small punctuation in the Aravalli mountains, and also known as Bansdara, dominates the verdant reaches of the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. Commissioned in 1884 the palace was originally supposed to feature a nine-storied astronomical observatory. Regardless, the palace which also served as a hunting lodge is timeless in its grace and excellent location to this day. The Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary or Udaipur Biological Park lies the foothills of the Bandhara hills of the Aravalli Range. Established to conserve the region’s threatened biodiversity, the park is spread over an area of 36 hectares,
Starting from one of the highest regional peaks and through the hills, among the lovely flora and fauna, amidst the best of views is an awe-inspiring journey that is not too long and definitely not tiring. The Sajjangarh palace is the backdrop for half the trail along with glimpses of other monuments encircling the hike, telling you stories of the erstwhile rulers and hunters of Mewar and their adventures.
