Chepang Hill Trek

The opportunity to explore the beautiful Chitwan region in the Terai is sure to be a very memorable experience. For one it offers some of the most spectacular settings of natural beauty; on the other hand, you get some of the local communities and imbibe of their rich cultural traditions that have been richly influenced by their closeness to this fertile land. The defining reason for doing the Chepang hill trek in the Mahabharat Range of Central Nepal is the walk through a rhododendron forest and the fabulous drama of the sunrise over the iconic Himalayan snow peaks which look down on the flat and fertile land of Chitwan. This new trail opened up in the lesser-visited area in the Chitwan terrain aims at improving the socio-economic situation of local communities here. Chepang village is an excellent spot to explore this semi-nomadic community’s cultural delights and its centuries-old close connect with its forested environs.

  • Hill trek through rhododendron forest in the beautiful Terai region, with breath-taking views along the way.
  • A lovely eco-friendly, back- to -nature experience with the bonus of a panoramic sunrise over Himalayan snow peaks.
  • Do your bit to improve the socio-economic standing of local communities in the lesser-visited areas of the Chitwan region
  • Learn about the Chepangs, the indigenous people of Nepal.

The trek route offers quiet time on the beautiful rhododendron trail and views of Rolwaling, Gauri Shankar, Langtang, Manaslu and the Annapurna range. What makes the Chepang Hill trek special is that, along with experiencing the unique culture of the Chepangs, we will also be able to savour the many delights of the natural beauty of the higher elevations of the countryside in Nepal. The Chepangs are an indigenous community of Nepal. They are quite shy and backward, compared to many other ethnicities in Nepal, largely because they have for a long time lived in splendid isolation in this richly forested terrain. But this isolation has also played a pivotal role in preserving and sustaining their ancient traditions and customs.
