Bhutan’s natural beauty, spiritual roots and heritage can be thoroughly enjoyed on this short trek. The four-tiered, pagoda-style temple commissioned by Queen Mother of Bhutan Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuk is unique in itself as it was built to propagate peace and harmony in the kingdom. Its architectural outlook is rooted in the tenets of Buddhist scriptures to this end.
The lovely temple site was commissioned by the spiritual Queen Mother of Bhutan Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuk. Aligned with the tenets of Buddhist scriptures this temple was built to bring peace and prosperity to the Kingdom as well as the world. Of interest in the complex are Bodhi tree, the massive statue of Vajrakilaya and another of Sakyamuni Buddha and the over 100 3-D sculptures of divinity featured in the room. Stroll through the beautifully tended gardens which are a visual delight in themselves. That said, a big bonus for visiting the site is the gorgeous vistas one encounters all along the short trek through paddy fields to the temple. This 1-hr trek is one of the most popular activities for adventure buffs in Punakha. Haul yourself to the top of the temple to enjoy those grandstand views of its beautiful surrounds and the Mo Chu winding its leisurely way into the emerald countryside.
