Cooking class with Rekha

Nepalese food is packed full of flavour and very popular.  Nepal’s cooking for long has shared many common factors with the traditions of its neighbours – India, Tibet and China. The cross-cultural influences, because of its geographic setting and historic ties, had a lot to do with it. That said because the country was closed to outsiders for a long time it has a stronghold on its traditions and has managed to retain much of the authenticity of its native cuisines (largely dependent on local ingredients)  which continue to thrive, despite contemporary changes creeping into the lifestyle, especially of its urban spaces.

At Pokhra you will be taught several popular Nepali staples by Ms Rekha in her own home – who, so it happens, also runs a foster home and takes care of 16 children.

Why you will love it

  • Treat your tastebuds to the delightful home-cooked Nepalese cuisine.
  • Opportunity to interact with the local host and her family.
  • Take home secret Nepali recipes so that you can try the dishes in your kitchen.

What you will experience

Your experience of cooking in Ms Rekha’s home is sure to leave you with many happy memories of a fun-filled cookery class. She will teach you how to make some of the most loved dishes such as Dal- Bhat, Puri, Nepali momo, that come out of a Nepalese kitchen, be it from home, a street stall or a restaurant. For example, Dal Bhat is a bowl of very healthy rice, and lentil soup and happens to be is one of the most popular dishes. Almost 75% of people eat twice a day. So, this is a dish you can’t miss; and Ms Rekha will share the secret of its popularity with you during the class. Besides the Dal Bhat you are going to make Puri, Pakauda and Aalu Dum, Nepali Momo (either veg or non-veg momo) and soup. Then you will learn to make your Nepali dish and then take home some secret recipes from Ms Rekha, to experiment within your kitchen.
