Here’s a ‘spirited’ experience to look forward to while exploring the many customs and traditions of Bhutanese culture. Local brews have always excited interest amongst those who enjoy a drink or two…or even more, as the case may be, especially when they are visiting new places. Well, Bhutan’s local tipple “Ara’ has had many takers and this tour even shows you how to make your own stock back at home having learnt the nitty-gritty of it from the experts such as the local farmer, Ap Passang.
If liquor is your thing, we have local farmer Ap Passang who will share with you his recipe of making ara, the local Bhutanese brew. Traditionally most Bhutanese make it in their home. A visit to Ap Passang’s home at the nearby Sirigang Village will reveal the secrets of making this heady brew enjoyed by people all across Bhutan. Made from rice, millet, or wheat, ara can be fermented or distilled. A popular beverage enjoyed on many social occasions, this much-loved local tipple is carried and stored in handcrafted wood and silver containers. In the process, you will also delve into Ap Passang’s daily life and the stories about ara and how he makes only the most authentic and best quality version of this traditional alcoholic beverage of Bhutan
