The lofty ridges with their tendrils of mists and sunbeams creating magic are a marvellous excuse to go trekking again in Coorg. This gorgeous region offers all manner of trekking trails for different levels, which is why it is so popular as an adventure sport for beginners as well as hard core trekking buffs. With its swathes of shola forest and grassland, coffee and spice plantations, mountain grandeur, wealth of flora and fauna and rich cultural heritage, Coorg offers a unique dimension to explorations on foot.
This all-year-round trek begins on a quiet note at an uncrowded spot surrounded by villages and fields. The true trail cuts through a rainforest, following a narrow path through dense verdure. This area is alive with birdsong and rustle of animals on the move. So, stay alert and listen to your guide.
The trail moving gently up an incline leads straight to a ridge. Here take a pause and soak in the drama unfolding beneath you as the terrain plunges thousands of feet deep to the valley floor.
After short break the pathway cruises eastwards along the ridge. Over the next couple of hours, the trail offers some of the finest views in Coorg. Along the way, you’ll spot ancient “kadangas”—old trenches which bring home memories of Coorg’s ancient military history.
Around midday, you get a welcome break for lunch, before catching the trail once again until we reach signs of local life—coffee plantations. The final part of the walk takes you through small hamlets, past coffee estates and tranquil swathes of verdant spaces. Your waiting vehicles will return you to the resort.
