The South Coorg trek offers beautiful vignettes of this glorious natural setting dominated by the Brahmagiri Hill, a magnet for trekking buffs. Located at a height of 1608 m its verdant reaches are rich in wildlife and botanical beauty. En route, you will come upon the Lakshman Tirtha River associated with Lord Rama. Legend is that while passing through the area on his return from Lanka he was feeling thirsty; brother Lakshman shot an arrow and water sprang out of a rock creating a stream from which Lord Rama quenched his thirst. This is just one of the legends associated with this area.
You will find yourself really testing your mettle against the unforgiving slopes of a legendary hill today. You will drive to the trailhead where a famous temple is situated in a scenic valley in South Coorg. The stream nearby is associated with legends from the Ramayana. And the mountain is associated with the creator himself, and there is a peak close by that is named after the undisputed king of the wilderness himself. The trail will ascend steadily through the tree line along the rushing stream. After a long arduous climb, you will be amply rewarded with the spectacular scenery unfolding below you at the grasslands.
