A wonderful opportunity to explore the fabulous views of the Scotland of India from another perspective. The trail opens out into shola and grassland, offering magnificent views across the Coorg countryside. These views have earned Coorg the moniker of 'Scotland of India. Sholas are found in montane evergreen rainforests at about 1900-2200m in the southern extensions of the Western Ghats. ; the shola-grassland ecosystem translates itself in a thick growth of trees found in the depressions in the folds of the ghats surrounded by vast expanses of grassland; the sholas are home to India’s largest population of elephants; look out for sightings here of the lion-tailed macacque.
Our vehicles will deposit us at the trailhead, which is literally at the end of the (barely) motorable road. We will plunge immediately into the jungle and follow the trail as it makes its way through the lush undergrowth. The gradient is easy at the beginning, which is perfect for stretching the muscles in advance for the more strenuous exertions ahead. After about a couple of km, the trail opens out into shola and grassland, offering magnificent views across the Coorg countryside. These views have earned Coorg the moniker of 'Scotland of India" - And some of our British guests have admitted that the two do appear to be closely related.
