One of Goa’s prettiest areas in the countryside is just a short e-ride away from the city. Fresh opportunities await here for the urban visitor for explorations of one of Goa’s hidden cultural gems. The tour offers you the essence of village life in all its serenity and lively camaraderie. You’ll get to savour the raw magic of the Tinto, the atmospheric market square, the local produce hub. A sampling of the highpoints on the trail is the stunning view of the magnificent 3 Kings Chapel, believed to be the most haunted spot in Goa. You can also look forward to unravelling the tale of the humble Pao and the process of its making process at a local bakery, right on the beach itself
We meet at the hub and ride straight to Guiron, our first stop. Though closed during the monsoons it can be opened upon request. We transfer to the Tinto –the very hub for the sale of local produce ranging from fish and meat and fresh veggies and fruit, and where the animated atmosphere rings with the hustle and bustle of the vendors and the bargain seekers for the best fare. Close to the train station, it’s a very convenient spot for produce coming in from out of town. The village market square is also just the spot for all manner of appliances and tools, hardware and even building materials for the locals.
We enjoy the views and appreciate the architecture of St. Thomas Church and Dr Barbosa House and the 3 King Chapel, said to be the most haunted place in Goa. You can get some nice pictures of the serene Velsao Lake and Velsao-Dando Bridge as we head for the bakery by the beach. We spend a while here unravelling the mysteries of baking the Pao, an intrinsic part of culinary traditions in the homes.
