Good Morning Kochi

The early morning scenes of a beach-side city offer a whole new perspective to Kochi's citizenry and its daily routines. Popping into a local café introduces you to Kochi's cafe culture, now an intrinsic routine of Kochi's daily life for many people. Arriving at the beach you will encounter fitness Kochi in its various avatars. The local fisherfolk open another aspect of daily life as they arrive from a night of fishing for the daily fish auction. You will join other citizens at Vypeen Island waiting for the local ferry, the popular mode of transport that connects it to the mainland; later catch a tuk-tuk ride and enjoy the fun-filled noisy, bumpy ride to your next destination.

Why you will love it

  • Meeting Kochi at the start of the day  and imbibing its cultural variety and richness from another perspective
  • Visiting an iconic local cafe or a chaya kada to plunge into Kerala’s café culture
  • Visiting the Vypeen fishing harbour and attending the daily fish auction

What you will experience

This tour is an ideal interface with Kochi as it starts its day. We plan to begin very early in the morning if we want to catch the morning routines of the citizenry. We will stop by at iconic local cafe (chaya kada) and join locals catching up on the news, politics and gossip. After picking up the morning paper along with a lottery ticket (very popular amongst some people in the community)   we head out for historic Fort Kochi and it's a popular beach to watch the morning rollers come in and leave behind pretty seashells and driftwood. We will watch citizens here going through the routines of fitness at the unique gym by the beach or morning yoga classes. At the Parade Ground, we will catch locals play football - a truly Kochi ritual. A ferry ride offers delightful visuals of the passing scenes on the embankments. The Vypeen Island shoreline is particularly lovely and a nice introduction to the fishing harbour where we will stop and enjoy some photops and learning experience of the daily fish auction. We can spend some quiet time in the serene environs of the Church of Our Lady of Hope before we are off again – this time enjoying a noisy fun-filled tuk-tuk ride.
