Pens and Brushes

Overview

This trail leads you to hill villages, brooks, rivulets, meadows, grasslands, and forests. You may even come across some wildlife, some pheasants, a variety of wildflowers and some local plants that grow widely on the slopes.

As you finish the tour you are taken for a tour of the art gallery of a local artist.

Why you will love it

  • Interface with Nature.
  • Walking through the Forested Trail that is decorated with local villages, water channels, grasslands, meadows, rivulets, tiny hamlets, and the Himalayan landscape.
  • Walking with a local.
  • Walkthrough a local area and see the local lifestyle.
  • Visiting the Art Gallery of Mr Sanat Chatterjee.

What you will experience

Allow us to take you on a Nature Walk where the ramble takes you past tiny villages, lush meadows and dense forests. It leads you past the birthplace of a legendary Hindi writer Nirmal Verma ending Sanat Chatterjee’s art gallery where you can enjoy the display of some of his work.

The name of the walk itself is inspirational – ‘Pens’ because it starts from the house of Rudyard Kipling, an eminent writer who spent about three years of his youth in Shimla, and ‘Brushes’ because it finishes at an art gallery established by a living legend Mr. Sanat Chatterjee. He is famed for his longest painting in the world (75 ft, 90 ft, and 100 ft) on silk with watercolour. Sanat Chatterjee and his son Him live here with their families.
