The Shimla Hills have for long provided a respite from the punishing summers of the plains for the ruling officers of the British Raj. Though for a long time it was their private preserve with ‘No Indians or dogs’ allowed on certain areas of the hill town, today it is one of India’s top hill stations.
Beloved for its cool climes, gorgeous Himalayan views and beautiful forest trails Shimla is the idyllic retreat for a ramble through the woods, alive with the scent of pine and cedar.
The view of Great Himalayan Ranges from where the trail begins is just amazing. From here we will wander down to the village bazaar where you will enjoy glimpses of slow-paced hill life…a shoemaker here, a sweetmeat shop there, a lady tailor further on, some grocery shops attending to customers…And some taxi drivers looking for some business from every outsider coming into town to take them sightseeing. You will also find the Raj era houses here, located here for the grandstand views and tranquil environs. Now, these homes have been taken over by some Indian establishment or families.
